Death Race July 30th-31st, 2016

Congratulations DEATH RACERS!
Whether a successful finisher or not, great fortitude was shown by all.

What started with perfect running conditions in the morning turned to Hell on Hamel by evening with scores of runners facing unusually severe conditions.  Four seasons in a day we always say .... and mean it!  Special kudos to Matthew Leduc (13:04:48), soloist, for his first place Men's time and unprecedented feat of being the first soloist to actually be the first Racer over the Finish Line. Amber Poliquin (17:17:20) laid claim to the first place women's title in the solo category.  Congrats to the Ball Brothers 2.0 (13:05:30), for their first place team performance.  Also new this Death Racing Season was the Near Death Marathon with resounding accolades in its inaugural year and an outstanding lightning fast performance by Brody Sveinson (5:07:12) and Mindy Fleming (5:41:00) in capturing top marathon title in men's and women's categories respectively in what might be the world's slowest toughest marathon event.

Further highlights: With a heartwarming proposal at the Start-Finish Line and celebratory champagne, Matthew Leduc (1st place solo) and Mindy Fleming (1st place women's marathon) became engaged to be married.  For the first time since the inception of the race, a solo runner was first across the finish line, took the time to propose to his girlfriend Mindy Fleming, (The near Death Race Female marathon winner) thereby losing a couple of more minutes, finally chipped out, and still beat the next runner by almost a full minute. As pointed out by our announcer Stuart Tate, we expect some amazingly fast kids from these two.  And then there's Dag's inspiring sprint to the leg 2 finish line (coming in just seconds under the cutoff) and Hiro's 11th solo finish!  This combined with countless tales of triumph and adversity will make this race go down in history.

Do check out the Race Results to reflect upon the challenges you faced and accomplishments achieved.

Thanks to all our volunteers, sponsors, the Town of Grande Cache and to the Racers for making the Death Race, this truly amazing celebration of the human spirit to test the limits of possibility.

In for some more Death Racing?  Catch us for the Kids Race this afternoon - this high energy action packed event is like no other!

June 22, 2016 - Raising money for Mitochondrial research

I am proud to introduce Canadian Death Racers to Team Mito!!!

Team Mito on their motivation:
Our team is a group of strong, accomplished ultra-marathon athletes. Having run the Canadian Death Race for years, and with 4 successful finishes, the number of accumulated kms between the 5 of us is staggering. We feel blessed to be able to do what we love and keep doing it on a daily basis. This challenge reminds us how lucky we truly are and by doing this shows we do not take it for granted. Blaine and Evan Penny are an inspiration. Blaine is a fellow ultra-runner whom we all have watched win race after race. We have see Evan and Blaine’s family cheering him on. The strength and courage that they have shown is so inspirational and when you hear their story you can’t help but be affected. But they are only one family dealing with this on a daily basis….many have no faces or names to us but they still exist and need our support. Please help us bring more awareness, education and money for research to help them.
Follow the link below to donate to our cause....our goal is for all 5 of us to complete the Canadian Death Race but also to do it under 102 hours!! Follow us in our journey!!

It has been said that the only thing more challenging than running in the Death Race is volunteering for it; without our volunteers' dedication, stamina and and hard work, there would be no race.

As a token of appreciation to our 2016 Volunteers, we are offering three incentives:

1. If you are among the first 200 adult Volunteers to volunteer for 4+ hours, you (or your designate) will be GUARANTEED entry  next year for your team or as a solo racer. This is a sweet deal, since, as you know, the race fills up extremely quickly. And if you thought that was great, we'll throw in a $50 discount off of your team or solo registration next year as well!

2. If you are a Racer and Volunteer this year as well, your name will be entered into a draw, announced at the Awards Ceremony for one FREE, transferable Racer entry for next year.

3. All Volunteers will also be entered into draw, announced at the Volunteers' Banquet the monday after the race (2pm at the Legion 2400 Pine Plaza) for a FREE, transferable racer entry for next year.

Don't miss out on these golden opportunities and join the fun as a volunteer!

Select the volunteer link on the side bar for full details on these incentives, to learn more about volunteering and to sign up NOW!
